Frequently asked questions

What fields are mandatory on a GST invoice?

Under CGST Rule 46, a GST tax invoice needs: a unique invoice number and date; the supplier's name, address and GSTIN; the recipient's name, address and GSTIN (if registered); HSN/SAC code for each item; description, quantity and unit; taxable value and discounts; the GST rate and amount, split as CGST + SGST (same state) or IGST (other state); the place of supply; and the supplier's signature.

Can I edit these templates after downloading?

Yes. The Excel and Word templates are fully editable in Excel/Google Sheets and Word/Google Docs. The PDF is meant to be printed and filled in by hand, or used as a fixed layout reference - use the Excel or Word format if you want to type in details digitally.

Do I need a GSTIN to use these templates?

No. Anyone can download and use these blank formats. If you're not GST-registered, you'd issue a "bill of supply" instead of a tax invoice (no GST is charged), which is simply this same format with the GST/tax fields left blank or removed.

What's the difference between an invoice format and a bill of supply?

A tax invoice (this format) is issued by a GST-registered business and shows GST charged on the sale. A bill of supply is issued by an unregistered business, or for exempt goods/services, and looks the same but without any GST or tax amount fields.

Are these templates free to download?

Yes, completely free, no signup, no watermark. We save which format you download (and, if you leave your name/contact details, those too) so our team can follow up if you're interested in Trayvo.
